Pepsi uses unique family book to help business bloom

When John McGuire and Scott Mennie wrote and published The Original Parent and Family Logbook, they certainly envisioned the book being a big seller to families of all kinds. What they may not have foreseen, however, was the response from corporate America.

The book caught the attention of Nick Giachino, Senior Vice President of Pepsi USA, Midwest Division. Citing numerous studies tying workplace satisfaction and productivity to a stable, happy family life, Giachino was searching for an item he could distribute to his family of key employees, clients and associates that would place Pepsi at the forefront of family supportive companies.

Giachino told Mennie and McGuire, "Pepsi has always considered as "family" our employees, suppliers and business associates." Hearing those words from Giachino, the authors knew they had found a huge market for their unique book.

Pepsi recently purchased 1000 copies of The Original Parent and Family Logbook. Mennie and McGuire think that represents just the tip of a very large ice berg for Pepsi and other companies. Giachino encouraged his 300 Midwest bottlers to order the book to give as gifts to their "families" of employees and customers. Mennie and McGuire have suggested that Pepsi take even further steps to be recognized as the leader in championing the importance of family.

"Companies are learning that when their employees have a happy home, they are more productive at work." stated Mennie. "The Original Parent and Family Logbook makes a perfect gift or award to key employees, customers and associates."

McGuire added, "We are talking to countless companies who see the very strong advantage of being identified as a family sensitive company. Mortgage companies are considering giving the book to new mortgage customers, Realtors are interested in giving the book to home buyers, and car dealers want to give the book to families purchasing mini-vans."

The book does indeed make a perfect gift. "The trouble with traditional gifts like flowers, food or liquor is that they are soon forgotten." said McGuire. "When The Original Parent and Family Logbook is given, not only will the parents and children benefit each time they use the book, but there is also a renewed appreciation of the company or individual who gave the book as a gift."

And the book is truly unique. By combining hundreds of practical, concise parenting tips with 24 keepsake memory book pages, McGuire and Mennie have created what one reader called "the owner's manual for raising a family."

Other readers have been just as enthusiastic. Child psychologist, Dr. Sharon Murphy wrote, "As I read through The Original Parent and Family Logbook, I became immediately challenged and motivated as a professional to help families by using the ideas in the book. At the same time, I was inspired and encouraged to become a better parent to my own children and shown the way to begin."
